Getting started
How do I try HomewoQ?
HomewoQ is currently in beta on iPhone and iPad. Join via TestFlight, install Apple's TestFlight app if prompted, then open HomewoQ. A full App Store release is on the way, leave your email on the home page to be notified.
How do I set up my child's profile?
During setup, choose your country, your child's year/grade and curriculum, and their subjects. This is what lets HomewoQ pitch every hint and quiz to the right level. You can change it any time in the parent settings.
Using the tutor
Where do I start a question?
Tap the round button in the centre of the bottom bar to open “Ask a question”. Type or photograph the problem, then follow the guided hints. To work through it line by line, tap “Work it out step by step” to open the scratchpad.
Why won't it just tell us the answer?
That's the whole point of HomewoQ, it's built to guide your child to the answer, not hand it over. When they're really stuck, it gives a smaller hint or works a similar example with different numbers, so the final step is always theirs. This cannot be switched off.
The read-aloud voice sounds robotic
HomewoQ uses the best voice installed on your device. For a far more natural voice, download a premium one: on iPad/iPhone go to Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content (or “Read & Speak”) → Voices → English, and download a voice marked Enhanced or Premium. HomewoQ will use it automatically.
For parents
How do I open the Parent Zone?
Parent controls sit behind a PIN you set. From the “Me” area, open Parent Zone and enter your PIN to manage settings, set work, daily limits and more.
What is Christian mode?
HomewoQ is warm and encouraging but faith-neutral by default. Families who'd like it can turn on Christian mode in the Parent Zone to add gentle, uplifting Bible verses and characters. It's entirely optional and off unless you switch it on.
How do I stop my child leaving the app? (Guided Access)
Use Guided Access, a built-in iPhone and iPad feature that locks the device to a single app so your child can't switch to games or messages until they're done.
- Turn it on once: go to Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access and switch it on. Tap Passcode Settings → Set Guided Access Passcode and choose a passcode only you know (you can also enable Face ID / Touch ID to end sessions).
- Start a session: open HomewoQ, then triple-click the side button (or the Home button on older devices). Tap Start in the top corner. HomewoQ is now the only app that can be used.
- End a session: triple-click the side button again, enter your passcode, and tap End. Without the passcode, the app can't be left.
You can also tap Options on the Guided Access start screen to disable the keyboard, touch, or the volume buttons if you'd like an even more locked-down session.
Can I see what my child worked on?
Yes, HomewoQ keeps a history of sessions and a weekly recap showing topics practised, time on task and where they needed support, so you can see they were guided rather than given the answers.
